What happens at a swimming assessment?

Each swimmer will be asked a few simple questions before getting into the pool, where an assessor will observe their technique and skills. After the assessment, we’ll chat about availability and follow up with you in the coming days regarding suitable class options.

What if there are no suitable days or times available right now?

We operate a very efficient waitlist for prospective swimmers. In many cases, it's made up of current swimmers looking to shift days due to changing schedules or co-curricular activities, rather than new swimmers waiting for a spot.

If you have broad availability, you’ll typically receive an offer for lessons within 1–2 months. We find it can take longer when a specific day, time, or teacher is requested.

Once you're a part of the EverSwim community, we’ll always do our best to support you when things clash—we’ve all been there!

How long is enrolment for?

Enrolment runs in two-month blocks (approximately 8 weeks). At the end of each block, you’ll be automatically re-enrolled for the next. If you wish to end lessons, this must be done at the end of a block with at least two weeks’ notice.

How can I pay for my lessons?

Lesson fees are paid in advance and must be paid in full. You can make payment through our online portal or at reception using cash or card. Please note, payment plans are not available.

Do lessons run all year, or just in school terms?

Our lessons run year-round, with breaks only on public holidays and a short break over Christmas. This consistent schedule helps swimmers maintain their skills and see faster progress over time.

How does a swimmer check in for their lesson?

For your first lesson, please arrive at least 10 minutes early and check in at reception. Our team will provide any information you need, guide you around the centre, and direct you to your lesson location—so you're all set to start right on time.

For all ongoing lessons, swimmers are required to check in before every session. This can be done by:

• Visiting reception as you arrive at the centre (all locations)

• Scanning your Swimmer ID in the App on arrival (Port Macquarie only)

Checking in helps us keep everything running smoothly and ensures accurate attendance records

How do I mark my swimmer as not attending?

You can mark your swimmer away through our Swim Portal App. Alternatively, you can call reception to notify us. If you provide at least two hours’ notice, you’ll be eligible to receive a makeup swimming lesson.

How do makeup swimming lessons work?

Makeup lessons can be viewed and booked through our Swim Portal App, with availability shown up to two weeks in advance. Makeup lessons are valid for 90 days from the date they’re issued and will expire if your enrolment ends. Please note, makeup lessons cannot be used if there are outstanding fees on your account.

Do I need to supervise my child at the pool?

Yes, parents and guardians must be present before, during, and after their child’s swimming lessons to ensure their safety and support. For all Babies classes, parents are required to be in the water with their child.

Should I continue classes during winter?

Winter is a great time to keep your children active, healthy, and progressing in their swimming skills. We often see that swimmers who take a break during winter find it harder to pick up where they left off. For preschool children especially, consistent year-round practice is important to prevent skill regression, as their muscle memory and long-term retention are still developing. Fortunately, our indoor pools maintain warm, comfortable temperatures, making lessons enjoyable throughout the year.

Why do we teach short distance lessons?

We focus on short distance swimming to help children develop correct technique from the start. Practicing skills over shorter distances allows swimmers to build strong kicking action and efficient strokes, without fatigue compromising their form. It also gives our instructors more opportunities to observe and correct technique, ensuring solid foundations before progressing to longer distances.

Can I take photos or videos of swimming lessons?

Learning to swim is a special milestone, and we understand that parents may want to capture their child’s progress. To respect the privacy of all families, videos are not permitted during lessons. Photography is allowed, but only of your own child. Please take care not to include other students in your photos. This allows us to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

How do I track swimmer progression?

Through our Swim Portal App, you can track Swimmer Level, Skills required to progress, and Skills achieved.

How is the water quality maintained?

Our pools are maintained with a state-of-the-art Ozone System, keeping the water at a comfortable 31–32°C. The water is tested and automatically dosed every 15 minutes to ensure it stays soft, clean, and crystal clear—perfect for enjoyable and safe swimming.

How long will it take for my child to learn to swim?

Learning to swim is a long-term journey, not a one-time event. Consistent, weekly lessons are key to ongoing progress and skill development. Every child learns at their own pace, mastering skills that are appropriate for their age and stage. With regular practice, your child will build strong foundations, retain skills long-term, and gain the confidence to swim for life.

Does EverSwim use floaties?

At EverSwim, we use some teaching aids like hand floats and kickboards to support learning—but we don’t use arm bands or back bubbles in our classes. These types of floaties can create a false sense of security and encourage poor body positioning in the water. Our focus is on helping children build real water confidence and proper technique from the start.

What are the benefits of starting swimming early?

There is strong evidence that children who take regular swimming lessons from an early age are better prepared to learn across many areas of life.

The benefits go far beyond mastering a life-saving skill. A groundbreaking four-year study by Australia’s Griffith University found that 3 to 5-year-olds who regularly attend swimming lessons were:

- 11 months ahead in verbal skills

- 6 months ahead in math skills

-  2 months ahead in literacy skills

- 17 months ahead in story recall

- 20 months ahead in understanding directions

At EverSwim, our Learn to Swim programs focus on essential safety and survival skills such as breath control, submersion, turn-around swims back to the wall, and backfloating. Ultimately, children who are comfortable and confident in the water from an early age are better prepared to respond in an emergency.
